Dolrhedyn Stud

The Dolrhedyn stud is  situated on the A5 west of the medieval market town of Shrewsbury and over looking the Berwyn mountains

The stud was started in 1981 with the purchase of Hisland Frill as a companion for another pony and like most welsh breeders once you have had a welshie you are hooked a trip to the legendary Dick Swain of the Crossways stud saw the introduction of Crossways Sue Ellen and Crossways Cotton Queen 

A trip the following year to the Fayre Oaks Sale saw the purchase of a 2 year old filly Hisland Silver Pin she has been the main foundation of the stud daughters , granddaughters and now a great grand daughter are retainer in the stud 

After a few years breeding I decided to breed ponies of the true mountain type mostly of Revel and Baledon breeding so in 1992 I made a trip to Emyrs Griffith of the famous Revel stud I was looking for a colt with stallion potential I bought Revel Hy-hopes (Revel Craze Revel Heytime) while I was there I also spotted a daughter of the famous Revel Chorus Revel White Cameo (Sadly she was to die young of Grass sickness )but not before she was mated to Hy-hopes and the very precious Dolrhedyn Willow is retained in the stud

Other trips to Fayre Oaks, Hay and Brecon sales have seen the purchases of Sisson Bronwyn, Yaverland Delphine, Sardis Crystal, Gemstone Harriet, Gemstone Lucky Locket and Tyfry Buttons

The final purchase I have made was another colt to go on the Hy-hopes daughters a palamino Baledon Golden Osprey (Criccieth Barcud Baledon Worthwhile) his first crop of foals have been very pleasing and I am looking forward to his crop from the young mares this year

Though a relatively small stud the continuing success at mostly local shows with home bred ponies speaks for itself being regular winners, medal winners and champions at shows such as Shropshire and West Midland, Oswestry, Minsterly, Bishops Castle, Burwarton, N.C.P.A Shropshire and many others
